Technical Career Management

By vinca

In the course of our daily activities, the consultants at Hire Resolve meet developers that have or have had a vision of where they will take their careers. There are also developers that have not or are not strategically managing their careers, aside from job hopping to any place that will provide them more money. While more money is attractive in the short term, accepting positions on this basis only, can be very damaging to long term earning power.

Developers looking for long term growth in earning power should be trying to differentiate themselves in terms of technical skills and industry domain knowledge amongst other things i.e. domain knowledge in financial, insurance, banking, media, manufacturing, payment processing, telecommunication industries can be very important. Similarly domain knowledge in specific areas like product, application, web or mobile development is often sought after by employers.

So in conclusion if you want to get the most out of your career then it is a good idea to research and think about the place or places where you will build experience. In particular consider looking at places where trends point to fast and / or sustained growth.
